How to Become a HYROX Training Club in South Africa
Both national chains and Discovery have already taken their place on the HYROX map here. The published list of everyone else is twenty gyms long.
On 26 November the Johannesburg Expo Centre at Nasrec turns into a race track for four days. Some of your members are already training for it, whether or not you put anything on the timetable. Becoming a HYROX training club in South Africa is one way to own that training. It is not the only way, it costs real money every month, and the part that actually fills your floor is free.
Here is what the badge grants, what the published lists already look like, and what to do in the nine weeks before the race.
Virgin Active signed up 128 clubs in one move
Virgin Active South Africa is the official title sponsor of HYROX here, and its own member page puts the scale plainly: all 128 Virgin Active clubs are official HYROX affiliate partners. HYROX training sits inside the existing membership at no extra charge, members get 48 hours of early access to race entries, and selected clubs receive HYROX equipment depending on tier and floor space.
Planet Fitness took the other seat. Its announcement names it HYROX South Africa's Official Training Partner, with group classes rolling out at selected clubs in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town and KwaZulu-Natal, run by what it calls South Africa's first Planet Fitness HYROX-certified Master Trainers.
Discovery took the third. Vitality was named the Official Wellness Partner of HYROX South Africa in July 2025. Members earn 100 Vitality points a day for training at a HYROX training club, and up to 600 points for finishing a race. If you have already read how the Vitality Fitness network pays, you know the visit arrives pre-paid, which makes the HYROX designation a small addition to a channel that already exists.
Both of the big national chains and Discovery now hold a HYROX relationship. The published list of everyone else is short, and it is made up almost entirely of independent gyms.
The list
Twenty gyms carry the badge, and thirteen are in Gauteng
Discovery publishes a PDF of HYROX Training Clubs in the Vitality Fitness network. Count the names on it and you get twenty facilities, and they are independents: CrossFit East London, 8292 Fitness in Bryanston, ATG Fitness Randburg, The Yard Athletic in Fourways, Willow Way Fitness, Kleinplaas Gym in Potchefstroom, Camissa in Cape Town. No Virgin Active or Planet Fitness club appears on it. Discovery's July 2025 announcement put the platform figure at 24 facilities, and the PDF carries a September 2025 date, so treat the exact count as a moving number and the shape of it as the finding.
The provincial split is lopsided.
Counted off Discovery's published HYROX Training Clubs list. Six provinces are represented, three are not, and Gauteng holds nearly two thirds of the total.
Gauteng
KwaZulu-Natal
Planet Fitness is rolling HYROX classes into KwaZulu-Natal clubs. On Discovery's independent list, the province is empty. If you run a box in Durban, Pietermaritzburg or Ballito, you are looking at a category with a national sponsor, a national wellness partner, a race calendar, and nobody local holding the designation.
The badge
What a HYROX training club in South Africa actually gets
HYROX365, which runs the affiliation, lists what a Training Club receives: the right to offer HYROX group classes to your members, permission to use the Training Club title in your gym name, use of HYROX brand and approved imagery in print and digital marketing, a listing on the official Training Club Finder, and access to the Performance Hub platform and Academy courses. The term is 12 months and renews automatically unless you cancel at least 60 days before it ends.
HYROX does not publish the price on that page, which is worth knowing before you plan around a number you read somewhere. Vibefam's June 2026 guide puts it at USD 130 a month, or USD 1 500 a year per site, with EU sites quoted at EUR 90 a month. Treat that as an indication and confirm it with HYROX directly. At that price, and at what an independent here typically charges a member, the badge has to bring in two or three joiners a month who would not otherwise have walked in, for twelve months straight.
| What affiliation grants | What you can already do |
|---|---|
| Call the sessions HYROX and put Training Club in your gym name | Run the same eight stations under your own name |
| A listing on the official Training Club Finder | Rank for “HYROX training” in your suburb on Google |
| HYROX brand and approved imagery in your marketing | Use the race date, which is public, in your marketing |
| Performance Hub programming and Academy coach courses | Write an eight week block off the published race format |
Discovery describes the gyms on its list as officially recognised HYROX Training Clubs, so the Vitality listing follows the HYROX affiliation rather than replacing it. That is the strongest argument for paying: the badge is what puts you in front of Vitality members who already have funded visits to spend.
A race entry is a deadline your member paid for themselves. You will not get a cheaper reason for someone to show up on a Tuesday.
The nine weeks
What to do before Nasrec
HYROX publishes the race format and it never changes, which is the useful part. Every HYROX is eight kilometres of running broken into one kilometre efforts, each followed by one station, in the same order every time: 1 000m SkiErg, 50m sled push, 50m sled pull, 80m burpee broad jump, 1 000m row, 200m farmers carry, 100m sandbag lunges, 100 wall balls. You can programme against that today.
Count who is already entered
One question at the desk and one message to the list. You cannot programme for a race you have not counted, and the answer decides whether this is a class or a whole block.
Audit your floor against the eight stations
Most independent gyms already own a rower, dumbbells for the carry, and wall ball capacity. The gaps are usually the sled and the sandbag. Substitute honestly rather than buying in a panic, and tell people what you are substituting.
Put a dated block on the timetable that ends on 26 November
Two sessions a week for eight weeks, named for the race, with the last session in race week. A block with an end date sells differently to a class that runs forever.
Run one full simulation four weeks out
Time everyone, write the times down, and give each person their splits. That session is your best piece of content all quarter and it costs you nothing but the hour.
Sell the January block before race day, not after
People drift in the week after a goal event, because the goal is gone. Open the next block while they are still sore and still proud, which is the week of the race.
The point
The race date does the work the badge cannot
Affiliation buys a listing, a logo and a programming library. Attendance comes from a dated block of training that ends on a day your members have already paid to be at. You can run that block this week, with the equipment you own, without signing anything.
Programme to 26 November first. Decide about the badge in January.
If the block fills and people keep turning up, the affiliation fee becomes an easy decision with evidence behind it. If it does not fill, you have saved yourself twelve months of a subscription and learned something more useful than a logo would have taught you.
Either way, the outcome turns on the follow-up: who entered, who trained, who finished, and who gets asked about January, and when. That is a systems problem rather than a programming one, and it is the half that does not happen by itself.
If you want the entries, the simulation results and the January follow-up to run without you remembering to do it, that is the system we build. Twenty minutes, no pitch deck.
